Now that I’ve got you singing the song I’ll give you a little time to finish…ok, are you ready to continue? Last year I was super honored to have a little part in Bill and Scout’s, aka The Guncles, daughter’s amazing 3rd birthday celebration. The theme was Doc Simone (Simore is their cute and very stylish daughter) and Jenny of Jenny Cookies styled the Doc party to set the bar for all Doc parties! With a 3 year old myself I was well aware of everything Doc McStuffins and designed this really fun wreath (as photographed by Francis Iacuzzi and seen on People.com)

It’s one of my favorite wreaths and recently I made a pair of ribbon topiaries with pops of hot pink to coordinate the Doc wreath.

They are so cute! I want to make ribbon topiaries to fill up my house or at least as a centerpieces for every party.

While I was buying fabric to make some custom Fabric Wreaths a couple weeks ago I picked up a little experimental fabric so I could play a little. I ended up make 2 beautiful wreaths, one of which I donated to a friend’s school auction! The other one, well, I made it to sell in my Ready to Ship section of my shop!

I am back today to share with you the signature cocktail that we served at the Red & Black Tattoo Baby Shower. A cocktail that I think would be PERFECT for a Halloween party (think Vampires & Blood!) – and to make it doubly better it would look exactly the same if you wanted to  skip the alcohol!!

Having a signature cocktail makes the cocktail aspect of your party simpler, cheaper, and more tied together. I love picking a drink that ties into your color theme. There are so many brightly colored liquors that making a signature cocktail for your party is easier than ever. To top that off, Vodka comes in just about any flavor you want these days, so not only can your cocktail match your color scheme it can also compliment your dessert table choices.

Recipe:
(adapted from Grey Goose)
1.5 parts Cherry flavored Vodka (there are many to pick from)
3.5 parts Sprite (or other lemon-lime soda, Ginger Ale is also a great option)
.5 parts Genadine
Cherries (optional)

I would suggest freezing your vodka and chilling your Sprite & Grenadine so everything is nice and cold. Mix all ingredients in a large pitcher. Keep pitcher on ice or provide ice for your guests’ individual use. Place 1 cherry in every glass and let the guests pour their own drink when they arrive and as they need refills.

For more adult beverage option you can visit and follow my pinterest board on the subject!
Please enjoy responsibly!

When we found out this spring that my daughters’ best friend’s mom (and our good friend, too) was pregnant, my friend and I could not wait to be able to throw her a baby shower. Those weeks of waiting for the gender to be known was as suspenseful to us and it was to her (although not AS suspenseful of course)! We needed to know how she was going to decorate the nursery and which way we should take the shower. Once we found out that she would be having another boy and that the nursery theme was only that it would be mostly black & white I took to the internet to start thinking about shower ideas. None of the beautiful shower themes that I was finding seemed to be right though. I talked to my co-host and asked her what she thought of a Tattoo themed baby shower and thankfully she didn’t look at me too weird and agreed that it was the perfect theme for our mommy-to-be!! I was able to find one shower out there that gave me some inspiration –  although the colors just weren’t right for our shower it was proof that my crazy idea wasn’t all that crazy after all.
I called on my friend Marie Thomas Designs to create a graphic and background for my invitation and from there I was able to create everything I needed (print-wise) for the shower.

The decor was fun and simple. I enlarged the invitation graphic on engineering paper at the copy store (they didn’t have the size they had advertised but it still came out great). Streamers and paper lanterns were all hung from the ceiling over the sitting area where we ate and crafted.

Everyone at the party got some fresh ink courtesy of glitter temporary tattoos that I found at the store.

To keep things simple (and keeping in our color scheme) we had 1 signature drink for everyone to try along with a non-alcoholic version. It was called a Dirty Shirley which is basically a Shirley Temple with Cherry Vodka.

Instead of the standard baby shower games and activities we opted to have everyone decorate a onsie for the baby. I pre-cut out t-shirt vinyl decals and we also had paint markers and puffy paints available for everyone.

The cake and the brownie bite toppers were TO DIE FOR. The Decorated Cupcake (the rosette cake) and Lynlee’s Petite Cakes (the fondant toppers) definitely went above and beyond to make the most gorgeous and tasty options for our dessert table.  With only 15 or so ladies attending the soiree we decided a ridiculous dessert table would have been only for looks and not practical for this shower which made this a very budget friendly party.

The other fondant toppers from Lynlee’s Petite Cake where placed on top of Rice Krispie treat rattles!

Although we didn’t take pictures of the food (whoops) we had cute veggie sticks and ranch served in red polka dot baking cups, ham and swiss sliders, chicken salad, and puff pastry wrapped brie with fruit.

Everyone made their own little goodie bag to take home with them including nail polish of their choice as well as tattoo themed nail files.

Before you could leave you had to take a photo with the mom-to-be with your guess of the baby’s arrival date and weight written on chalk board thought bubbles. We had a lot of fun with this including hanging a huge piece of black sequins fabric for our backdrop.

Of course one of the main parts of any baby shower is the opening of cute baby gifts. My gift was the Skull & Crossbones diaper cake using the cutest printed diapers from The Honest Company.

All in all I think we threw a wonderful shower, kept the budget in check, and made some lasting memories (if not picture) for the mommy-to-be!
