Disclaimer: I did receive free product from OnlineLabels.com but my thoughts, opinions, and words are 100% authentic.
The end of the school year is finally upon us! It’s a bittersweet time for me. I am not exactly sure how well I am going to be able to balance the summer but I’m going to try my best and I am very excited not to have to wake up before 7am anymore. For now, though, I am going to put all my effort into the class ice cream party that is happening on Monday. Because the party is a collaboration I don’t have totally control on everything but what I do have control over – the bowls, spoons, and napkins – I am going to make pretty and personalized! Luckily the awesome folks at OnlineLabels.com had recently sent me a couple different types of labels to play with so whipping up this fantastic ice cream bowls was super simple!

They’re pretty cute, right, scalloped for you any everything!!

After my ridiculously cute ice cream cups came in from Polka Dot Market (she has super speedy shipping) I sat down and designed the image I wanted on my stickers and saved the file as a .jpg file.

Then I opened the Maestro Label Designer on OnlineLabels.com‘s website and simply upload my design onto their template for the type of labels I was using (these are label number 1026 in Gloss White for ink jet) and printed them out. It was honestly that simple.

Look at that lovely sheen from the glossy paper. It make my heart pitter patter!

I have actually been using OnlineLabels.com for years. I am deeply in love with their Gloss White for ink jet paper. I also love the ability to order as little or as many sheets of the labels as I want.

I just popped the labels off the backing and put them on my ice cream cups!

These scalloped oval labels would also be cute on party bags, plastic cups, envelopes…the list goes on and on. And because they are high gloss, they look super professional!!

So while there may be times this summer when I am screaming for other reasons I really hope it’s just screaming for Ice Cream because before we know it, it will be time for school to start again!

I can’t believe that it is already the end of the school year. All of those first week jitters and the stress of getting use to the new routine of having a kid in school has faded away. Now I am having no more school jitters along with what are we going to do without the routine of school stress. I probably haven’t been as proactive as I needed to be in scheduling camps and gathering information from school mates and bus mates so we can do play dates this summer. To help the latter problem we’re going to be passing out these cute flamingo pencils to let our friends know that we’d like to Flamingle this summer!

Supplies:

Pencils
Pink Scrapbook Paper
White Cardstock
Hole & Paper Punch
Twine

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out this shape that I purchased in the online store. Instead of cutting out the legs, I let the yellow pencils act as the flamingo legs. I also skipped the beak.

If you don’t have a cutting machine you can make yourself a template by cutting out a basic flamingo body on thick paper or a cereal box and use it to trace as many flamingoes as you need onto pink scrapbook paper. If you don’t feel comfortable free-handing a flamingo body search “flamingo clipart” in any search engine and print out one you like to trace.

You can go all 1 color for your flock.

Or mix it up a bit!

The printable tags allow you to cut or punch from a 1.75″ shape up to a 2.5″ square or circle.

In the end I like the simple circle the best, but it’s a cute tag however you punch it! Simply write out your information on the back of the tag once you’ve cut it out.

Use a hole punch and use some cute twine or ribbon to tie the tag to the neck of your flamingo flock.

Now your kids can hand them out to all their friends and school and stay in touch over the summer!

One of my favorite items at my daughter’s Horses and Hairbows party last month was the oversized menu board behind the food table. Everyone at the party commented on it and wanted to know how long it took me to letter a chalkboard with that much detail. Well here’s the secret – I didn’t hand draw a single letter and that’s not even a real chalkboard!

I have horrible penmanship. Actually, that’s an understatement, I have horrendous penmanship. There is no way in 1,000,000 years that I would be able to handdraw a semi-decent menu onto a real chalkboard, but I really wanted a fancy menuboard to be my food table backdrop at my daughter’s party so I had to come up with an alternative.

I thought about painting a piece of plywood with black paint, maybe even chalkboard paint, so I could rub some chalk on it to make it look more authentic and then applying vinyl to it. However, plywood is heavy, and I am lazy.

That left me with one other choice – faking it! So I opened up Photoshop Elements, purchased a piece of foam core, and got to work!

*the designing & ordering of the menu graphic is NOT included in the 20 minutes of this project*

Supplies:

  • 32″x40″ piece of black foam core (that’s the largest they had at Hobby Lobby)
  • 36″x48″ engineering print with menu printed on it
  • double-sided tape
  • scissors
  • exacto knife & cutting surface
In PSE I opened up a new blank file that measured 1 inches wider and taller than my piece of foam core (33×41 in this instance). Make the background black and start adding all your different menu items to the board. I used every single “chalkboard” font that I could find on Pinterest for my menu board, but you could stick to just several coordinating fonts if you wanted. If you don’t have PSE you can also make your file in Picasa or PicMonkey, you’ll just need to open MS Paint and save a large black rectangle as a .jpg to use as your base photo to edit.
I saved my file as a high quality jpeg, uploaded it to Staples, and ordered it as the largest engineering print they offer, 36×48. I picked it up in my local store, but they also ship. The huge print cost me around $7.
Once you’ve gathered all your supplies you are ready to make your faux chalkboard menu board!
Run a line or two of double-sided tape around all 4 edges of your foam core. You can work in small area if you like. I did one short side first, then the two long sides together, and finished the remaining short side last.

Carefully lay your engineering print on to your taped foam core. To make sure I was doing it straight I cut off one side of the white boarders so I had a clean side to line everything up with.

Flip your board over and place a cutting surface underneath the edge. My self-healing cutting mat isn’t large enough to fit the entire board on so I just moved it along as I went.

Using an exacto knife, trim off the extra engineering paper.

And that’s it!! You are done!

The ink on the engineering print is solid like in a glossy photo which gives you that authentic chalkboard look without any added extra work.

Since this menu board is so light you can hang it up anywhere (even using command hooks or mounting strips) and not have to worry about needing nails and making holes!

My youngest daughter, Piper, turned THREE last weekend and to celebrate we decided to have a party at our house. Since visiting Hilton Head last fall and getting to ride on a pony named Cookie Piper has pretty much been obsessed with ponies. When it came time to plan her birthday party I knew just what to do – hire a pony to come to the house! My husband and I aren’t really “vintage” or “shabby chic” type people, we prefer “southern” and “preppy” so I turned to my good friend at Marie Thomas Designs to help me bring my Southern Preppy Pony party to life!
Derby Preppy Pony Party

The invitation:
It all started with this amazing invitation!
Preppy Derby Pony Party

We also have a deep love for the Kentucky Derby so for April 27th our house became Piper Downs! Unfortunately the rain heard about how awesome our party was going to be and decided that it wanted to be invited, too, so at the LAST moment we had to move everything inside. Everything except the pony of course. The girls (and parents) were real troopers and rode Blue in the drizzling rain before coming inside for snacks, crafts, games, and sweet treats.
The entrance:
Every equestrian loves to show off her prize ribbons and trophies so I turned to a bunch of my crafty friends to help in making Piper a bunch of unique prize ribbons for her display. Details on all these lovely ribbons and the amazing women who sent them to me will be in a follow up post! And, of course, we had to have a ribbon wreath for the occasion  but this time I wanted something new and fun so I made a horseshoe shaped wreath in the party colors!

The sweet treats table:
Once again my local Publix was able to help me out by creating a gorgeous, delicious cake that I topped off with a hand made ribbon. The chocolate horse lollipops and cupcakes were both made my me and are flanked by the prettiest preppiest cookies from Goosie Girl. The banner and win, place, show ribbons were all handmade by the extremely talented Dina of Deliciously Darling

The food table:
The backdrop for the food table was the large menu board that I created (tutorial coming soon) that looked like a chalkboard but most definitely was not. Every single adult at the party asked me how long it took me to hand letter my chalkboard so I think I did a great job at fooling everyone!

The crafts and activities:
The pony rides station was all set up with a lawn sign and hay bales to wait on while everyone took their turn (or 3) riding the pony, Blue. Once we got inside and ate each girl got to make her own Derby Hat from a selection of supplies I had picked out. The craft was simple and only took about 10 minutes, which is the perfect length of time for a 3-5 year old’s attention span. I also pre-made “pony tails” for each girl to wear while they raced around on the hobby horses. We also played “Pin the Bow on the Pony” which was tons of fun for the girls.

The favors:
I hand made a satin bow for each guest and attached them to a canvas board that I made. Each girl got a trophy, meticulously designed by Piggy Bank Parties, that she could fill up with sixlets, gumballs, kisses, and pony stickers, too.

All in all it was a great day for the birthday girl and all her guests, even with the rain and the last minute scramble to pull everything inside. I think this photo sums up just what a success the party was –

Of course none of this would be possible with out some amazing vendors:
Invitations, flags, party logo – Marie Thomas Designs
Trophy Favor boxes – Piggy Bank Parties
Birthday girl’s tank top – Made by Morgan
Banner & Lawn signs – Staples
Cake and snack platters – Fort Mill Publix
Cookies – Goosie Girl
Cupcake Liners and Striped Straws – Sweets & Treats Boutique
Banner and backdrop ribbons – Deliciously Darling

A week or so ago I shared with you some of the photos from my daughter’s 5th birthday party. Today I thought I would share with you some of the behind the scenes (aka iPhone photos) of the preparations from the party.

The balloons all blown up and ready for transport to the gym to act as my backdrop.

The is the template I made myself to paint diagonal stripes onto my plain wooden forks. I know there are many etsy & party stores that sell pre-painted wooden but I wanted to make my own. Of course you could use painter’s tape but that would take way too long to prep for my liking. I just placed my fork on top of my template and used it as a guide to free-hand the stripes. I will let you decide via the next photo if they came out ok.

My rainbow of diagonal striped forks.

I bought these push-pop containers about 2 years ago and I have never used them at a party. Coming up with a way to set them all up in under 5 minutes and not spend a small fortune on a stand was just not on my to-do list for this party, so I turned them upside down! I designed a label that matched the invitation and using my new labels from Onlinelabel.com, printing them out and wrapping them around the container body was a breeze!

I filled up the push-pop containers with rainbow colored gummy bears!! Cheap, easy, colorful, and best of all, yummy!

While scouring the internet for Care Bear party supplies I came across a website that had downloadable Care Bear graphic files that had blank bellies. Using the print and cut function on my Silhouette Cameo I made a couple sheets of blank Care Bear stickers. The stickers were used on the favor boxes. I hand wrote in each child’s name and used the favor boxes as a place card, as well. Double duty!!

This is what my entry hall looked like the week leading up to the party as I was experimenting with set ups. I was so sad when we got to the party location and realized that I had left the shelf for my gumball mason jars at home. :(

I had also ran out of time to put up all my cupcake wrappers that I had designed, printed, and cut out. :(

Oh, Publix, how I love thee. I mean personally I could have done with out the edible glitter they put all over my cake and cupcakes but the birthday girl thought it what phenomenal, so that makes it alright in my book!

And the clouds!! Oh, the clouds!! They were just perfect!  I didn’t leave them a photo or or any detailed explanations of the clouds and they did an amazing job. And to make it all even more perfect the cake tasted wonderful!

Along with the cake, I ordered 2 dozen cupcakes from Publix. 1 dozen vanilla and 1 dozen chocolate all with just sky blue frosting (which they again added the edible glitter to). I brought them home and using some canned frosting I plopped into a frosting bag I pipped on all the clouds and then stuck the airhead sours into the newly pipped clouds. They are visually stunning. So much bang for so little buck. I would totally recommend this for any rainbow occasion!!

So those are the Behind the Scenes of the party. It was simple, it was fun, there were some crafty touched, and most important the birthday girl loved everything about it!

One of the first projects that I did to prepare for Regan’s Bake Shop was this huge 23″ fabric covered R.

I actually bought the R when I was down in Florida for Thanksgiving last year since my JoAnn Crafts doesn’t carry them in our local store (but I knew my sister’s store carried them). They are also available online and only cost $9.99 – or use your coupon and get them for even less! I really love paper mache letters, there are endless ways you can decorate them – paint, fabric, paper, ribbon, cupcake wrappers, felt…endless possibilities. I decided a padded fabric with ribbon edging would be cute for this party (although cupcake wrappers would have been SUPER cute for a bakery theme). This project is pretty easy, so here is a quick tutorial for you!

Supplies:
batting
fabric
paper mache letter
stapler or staple gun
ribbon that is the same width as the depth of your letter
hot glue
scissors
disappearing ink pen or like colored marker
spray adhesive (optional)

Flip your letter upside down and trace it onto your batting. Cut out leaving a 1/2″-1″ border.

Do the exact same thing with the fabric, making sure you leave a border that’s a little larger than your batting.

Use a little spray adhesive on the right side of the letter and then lay the batting down on top. You can also just use a little hot glue here and there to adhere the batting.

Then lay your fabric, right side up, on top of the batting. As you can see, you don’t need to be too careful when you cut out your fabric.

You want to notch and clip any rounded parts if your letter has them.

Pulling the fabric lightly, add staples every so often to secure the fabric.

Continue all the way around your letter until you are happy with the letter’s look from the front. Then, using a little hot glue as you go, wrap the “sides” of your letter in matching or contrasting ribbon. I used a solid aqua grosgrain 1.5″ wide ribbon to add in the other party color to this project.

After looking at this photo I decided that I needed to glue my ribbon down better so I added some hot glue where I saw the ribbon not totally conforming to the letter.

Then just using a nail I hung the letter in our Kitchen, added some pretty paper pendant bunting from Polka Dot Market and I was done!!
