It’s Tuesday! The Tuesday before Thanksgiving week!! What?!? How did that happen so fast? However it happened, Thanksgiving is almost here and if your kids are anything like mine they can eat an entire meal in about 10 minutes. Start to finish. Including dessert. So when we want to have an enjoyable meal, such as Thanksgiving dinner, it’s always in my best interest to come with an activity for the kids.
This year I will come prepared with this really fun activity for the kids’ table that is so simple to put together the hardest part will be not eating the Sixlets yourself!

**side note – you may notice in the post the printable says “Thankgiving” let that be a lesson in designing under the influence of decongestants. The actual printable file included below is correct!**

The supplies are simple!

Supplies:

Sixlets
(click to download)
Scissors
  1. Download and print my Happy Thanksgiving printable.
  2. Cut in half (they print 2 to a paper)
  3. Give the kids some Sixlets
  4. Have them match the colors of the Sixlets on the coordinating letter

Did you know that Sixlets are gluten free and manufactured in a nut free facility? Makes them pretty perfect to serve at any kids’ table!!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner that is hopefully longer than 10 minutes!!

Disclaimer – Sweetworks sent me some of their candy to try out but the thoughts, craft, and opinion expressed here are 100% authentic & my own!!

I was playing around and made this fun graphic. You can download for your own personal use by clicking HERE. (it won’t have the watermark on it)

And since we are talking about November and Thanksgiving and Giving Thanks – I just wanted to show you what I am most thankful for on a day to day basis (besides Diet Mt. Dew)

Welcome back to part 2 of my Hip Hostess Gifts! Today I want to show you 2 different gift ideas – a Thanksgiving treat and then something that’s a little more Christmasy – after all, I am giving these gifts on Thanksgiving and since this one will last for the next couple months I thought I’d go in the Christmas direction.

I don’t know about you but I LOVE giving little Hershey Kisses with stickers on the bottom. I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I think that they are SUPER sweet! Using both Thanksgiving collections from Lauren McKinsey I printed out the labels on 8.5×11 sticker paper that I picked up at Walmart (10 sheets for $4.44 in the office supply/shipping section). Then I used my trusty little circle puncher (I think it’s .75″) to punch out all the tiny circles and applied them to both Caramel Kisses and Reese’s PB Cup! To make this gift a little more special I packed the kisses in a 3x3x3 clear acetate box that I had picked up from Garnish (one of my MOST favorite places to buy packing and simple party supplies) and sealed the box with a sticker from LM’s formal collection that reads “Thanks for being you” which I just love. The Reese’s PB Cups got stickered and packaged in mini white gable boxes that I also got from Garnish. I used the same sticker to finish of those boxes as well. To make them stickers I once again just printed out LM’s file onto the same sticker paper I used for the candy stickers but this time I used my #1 most used “craft” tool, my Tonic Paper Guillotine. I seriously have had this little baby for 6 years and it is WONDERFUL, it’s my BFF of craft tools! The last treat that I jazzed up so I could call it a “hip hostess gift” was simply printing out and wrapping some IKEA chocolate bars in the large candy bar wrappers in the Thanksgiving Casual set. Just print out on regular printer paper, trim with guillotine and tape to chocolate bar.

While perusing through Target for the standard boxes of chocolates and truffles that are also great to bring when you are a guest at someone’s home (and which I picked up a few to bring with us as well) I found this cute little rack of holiday scented liquid hand soaps. Now, the bottles are anything as fancy as the Bath & Body Works liquid hand soaps, the scents were just as fun. I picked up Candy Cane and Christmas Cookie for $1.79 each which is definitely nicer on the wallet than B&BW. Next, I took out my Silhouette SD and cut some monogram letters and snowflakes but you can easily get this same look by drawing it on with painters markers (which I LOVE and used to embellish the back of the soap bottles) or with stickers. On the back of the Christmas Cookies soap I used some Martha Stewart ornament stickers that I found at the craft store and just painted (with the pens) on the “ribbon” hanging down.

packaged in a cute little box I found in the Dollar Spot at Target

I hope you are able to bring some Hip Hostess gifts to whomever you may be visiting this Holiday season, even if you are just going to you parent’s house which you do all the time, make the holidays a little more bright by showing them you really do appreciate all they do!

What role do you play in Thanksgiving? Are the gracious hostess or are you so bad in the kitchen that no one wants to do Thanksgiving at your house ever again? Or, do you just really not enjoy spending all day in the kitchen, stressing over whether people will like your food, or get food poisoning? I fall somewhere in between no one wanting to come and not really wanting to have the pressure of cooking for a large group. But do you know what I love about being a guest at other people’s Thanksgivings (other than the obvious of not having to cook)? Bringing hip hostess gifts! That’s right, invite me to your house and I’ll bring you something pretty!

Over the next week I am going to share with you some of the fun hostess gifts I will be bringing with me to Florida next week!!

First up is a fun set of coasters!

When I first saw Lauren McKinsey’s sneak peek of her casual Thanksgiving collection that was featured in Giggle magazine I fell head over stiletto heals in love with the little turkey she designed for the collection. It is right up my polka-dotted loving alley! I knew that I wanted to do something fun with the turkey graphic and thought she would look very cute as a set of coasters. Custom coasters are really fun and easy (and cheap) to make.

Supplies:
4.25″ white ceramic tiles from the home improvement store of your choice
4×4″ paper – I printed out one of the banner pieces from the Casual Thanksgiving collection from Lauren McKinsey on regular printer paper, but you can use any kind of patterned paper, wrapping paper, something you print off your computer, anything!!
A sheet of felt (cut into 4×4 squares) – I bought the Eco Felt b/c it was thick and sturdy
Mod Podge – I used both matte & outdoor for this project, you can use any kind you want
Hot Glue
Acrylic Sealer (optional)
Step 1 – optional – Spray the paper you want to glue to your tiles with acrylic sealer on both sides and let dry. This helps the paper from wrinkling or bubbling up when you do step #2.
Step 2 – Apply a medium layer of matte Mod Podge to the top of the tile and center your paper on the tile.
Step 3 – LET IT DRY – like for real, this step is very important, so important it needs its own step!
Step 4 – apply a light layer of matte Mod Podge on top your paper
Step 5 – LET IT DRY!!
Step 6 – apply another thin layer of matte Mod Podge on top of your paper
Step 7 – I will just let you guess this one, it rhymes with Get Mit Try!
Step 8 – I applied a thin layer of outdoor Mod Podge to give it a little more water resistance. In the past I used outdoor Mod Podge for every layer of my coaster and to this day it is still rather sticky.
Step 9 – Using your hot glue gun run a bead of glue around the back of the tile and glue your felt on.
Step 10 – Let cure for a couple days before you use the coasters to allow the Mod Podge to fully harden. It’s ok if you don’t have a few days, but make sure to let is cure overnight at least.

I bundled my coasters together with a little ribbon I had laying around and as soon as I go get a magenta ink refill I will print out a cute “I am thankful for you” gift tag from the collection to attach to the tiles as well! Of course, these will be part of a little goodie bucket I am putting together…more posts to come!!

(Oh, and I might have made this cute little Tom into a t-shirt, too!)

I know that it isn’t even the middle of October yet, but it’s close enough, so here is my first Thanksgiving craft of the year. I wanted to create something that was a scrap buster but I ended up having to go out to buy a few small supplies to complete the project. This would be a great project to do with the kiddos!

Supplies:
8″ cardboard circle – I used cake rounds (11 for $4 at Wally World)
Large googly eyes (4 for $0.99 at HL)
Assorted Ribbons and Ric Rac
3-4 long pieces of Floral Wire & Wire Cutter or crappy scissors
An empty ribbon spool (or you can create your own smaller cardboard circles)
Scrapbook paper
Glue, scissors, hot glue & gun

1) Trace your large cake round onto a sheet of scrapbook paper & cut out. Glue paper to your cake round (I used a good ol’ fashion glue stick)
2) Take apart your ribbon spool, cut the large round disk from the side of the spool in half, trace fronts and backs onto paper. Cut out the paper and glue the front and backs onto the half disks you created. Set aside.
3) Cut your ribbon into 6 inch strips.
4) there are 2 ways to do the next step – a) with a sewing machine & b) without.
    a) fold your ribbon in half and run it through the sewing machine, leaving about a 1/2″ tail, continue  for all ribbon pieces then cut apart the string of ribbon you have created. Take your long piece of floral wire and insert it into the center of your ribbon loop, carefully slipping the wire between your seam stitches. Cut the wire with your wire cutters or crappy scissors you don’t care about, leaving just a small piece sticking out. Add a dab of glue to keep the wire from becoming victim of gravity. Repeat with all ribbon loops.
   b) fold your ribbon in half and hold at the base leaving a 1/2″ tail. Insert long floral wire through the center of your ribbon holding with your thumb and finger. Without burning yourself (the trickiest part of all) add a small dab of hot glue to between the tail pieces, enclosing the loop and wire all at once. Trim extra wire with wire cutters or crappy scissors.

5) on the back of your cake round lay out how you want your ribbon to look, apply glue about 1/2-1″ from the edge and glue the tails of your ribbon loops down.

6) optional – glue another cake round to the back to cover up the raw edges of your ribbon – I ended up covering them up, but I sorta wish I hadn’t, it just makes the next part a little tougher.
7) for the beak, fold over a scrap of paper  and cut out a triangle – if you don’t need it to be 3D just cut out a single triangle.
8) glue a piece of large ric rac or ribbon down if you are making a tom (for the wattle) and then glue your beak on top of that. Then glue down your googly eyes.
9) get out your half disks you covered with scrapbook paper in step 2, these are going to be your turkey’s feet. Cut a slit on the round part of your disk wide enough to accommodate the width of your cake round, or double cake rounds if you sandwiched in your ribbons.
10) slip Mr. or Mrs. Turkey into the slits and adjust the angle of the “feet” until you get it to stand up on its own.
And there you have a ribbon loop turkey!

Gobble Gobble Y’all!

Not too much Thanksgiving decorating going on in our house this year. We have decided to use the long weekend for a little R&R down in Hilton Head!! But, I couldn’t just let the holiday go unnoticed, that wouldn’t be {kinda} crafty, it would just be un-crafty! So I opened up my Silhouette software and starting going through my shapes and I found this little acorn I had downloaded for free a while back and thought it would be the perfect base for a Thanksgiving banner!! I also added some orange stickles around the letter for that extra glittery touch, after all, with the skies as gloomy as they have been lately everything could use a touch of glitter these days! So here is how it turned out, I noticed after I took and uploaded the pictures that they spacing with the “s” was a little off, so no worries, it’s been fixed!

And here is a little sneak peek of 2 Christmas projects I am working on. One of which will be a free download, if you like it!
