If somehow you get to my front door and haven’t noticed the University of Florida license plates and decals on our cars and you missed the Gator garden flag in the front bushes AND you missed the Gator gnomes guarding our front steps then you will definitely understand where our college football (and baseball, basketball, softball, and so on) allegiance lies when you see the biggest wreath I’ve ever made. After years of making wreaths for others I finally decided it was time to make one for myself and since I didn’t have to ship it anywhere I could make it as big as I wanted. So I did.

Using an 18 inch flat styrofoam wreath form I used more than 40 yards of ribbon, beautiful orange and blue ribbon, to create this wreath. That’s over 350 hand-cut pieces of 4 inch long ribbon, sewn into 2 inch long loops, and then individually hot glued into place. There are no short cuts for this wreath that can have the same results.

And because the wreath wasn’t enough I created a multi-layered add-on pin to really hit the point across.

Sometimes you really need to be willing to give up a couple finger prints in order to get the wreath you want.

I think my door looks complete for football season now.

And there is no doubt with this wreath hanging up that In All Kinds of Weather I LOVE Florida Football!

Are any of your children obsessed with Disney’s Frozen? My youngest daughter feels a deep connection with Elsa for whatever reason, so much so that she will even wear blue now (which is a pretty big deal for my pink and purple princess). We’ve pre-ordered the DVD and patiently waiting for March 18th to roll around. I know you can buy the digital version in the iTunes store now, but we’re going old fashion and waiting for the DVD release!
Until then we are gearing up to have some friends over to watch the movie and sing along and I thought that occasion could use a special front door welcome in the form of, what else, a Frozen Inspired Ribbon Wreath

I raided my ribbon collection for all different shades of aqua, light turquoise, teal, and baby blue to create this wreath. Then, using an svg file I purchased from ppbn designs, I painstakingly cut out the Snow Queen and attached her to a pin so that I could add her to the wreath.

And don’t worry Anna fans, there will be a coordinating Anna wreath coming soon, too!
As always, if you’d like to purchase your own wreath or DIY kit you can check out my shop

Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez

The good times are sure to roll this Mardi Gras, especially if this festive purple, green, and yellow glitter and polka dot wreath is hanging from your front door! Of course I had to add a little chevron into the mix, too!

I usually shy away from using too much glitter ribbon in a wreath but when I saw the great colors Hobby Lobby had in glitter ribbon I just couldn’t resist. And really, if any wreath could use a little extra glitter, it’s a Mardi Gras wreath.

I just really love the colors in this wreath!

Although, as the song goes, it’s the most wonderful time of the year, it can also be the most sneeziest time of the year for our family. The weather’s been extra weird this fall, going from warm to freezing and then back to warm over and over again. That, combined with the fact I have a kindergartener and a pre-schooler means the germs are pretty much everywhere these days. Luckily we’ve only had a couple days of sniffles, coughs, and not feeling our best, but we all know those days can be long. To help the day go by faster I’ve got a great Sick Day Activity – Decorate your own Kleenex® Box!!

The first think you’ll want to do, once you’re sitting at a place you can print from, is download this coupon for $1 off any multi pack of Kleenex from Target. Then, while you are at Target getting your Kleenex stop by the Dollar Spot and/or the craft aisle and pick yourself up a bunch of fun stickers, ribbon, foam shapes, etc.

Dump all the fun stickers and embellishments on the table and let your kiddos get to work!

The best part about getting to decorate your own box of Kleenex is that there are FOUR canvases per box!!

We used some letter stickers to “write” each person’s name on their box but as you can see we all came up with very different boxes so it won’t be too hard to know whose is whose.

Of course I covered one side of mine in ribbon, you totally knew that was going to happen, right?

Letting your kids have fun decorating their own Kleenex boxes will help distract them for a while from the fact they aren’t feeling their best. It might even help brighten their day. Also, a decorate box of your favorite Kleenex would make an awfully sweet gift to a family member or special neighbor who might be dealing with Cold and Flu Season, too!

Maybe now my three year old won’t go running from me every time I come near her to wipe her nose. Maybe.

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet (that was probably hot pink velour with rhinestone button tuffs),
Eating her curds and whey (no way!);
Along came a (hot pink glittered) spider,
Who sat down beside her (hey girl!)
And frightened Miss Muffet away.
If Miss Muffet wasn’t such a scaredy pants and took the time to get to know miss glitter spider she would have discovered how Glamtastic and Spookalicious she is. Oh well, Miss Muffet’s loss is our gain!

I wanted to make a Halloween wreath that was more Glam than spooky and think I accomplished that with this color palette. Hot Pink, Purple, Lime Green, and Black – I am LOVING it!

It’s definitely spookalicious and glamtastic but I thought it needed a little more.

So I added a spiderweb that is cut out from purple glitter cardstock, but it needed more.

So I glittered a giant rubber spider, of course.
Fun and easy tutorial on glittering you own spider coming soon!

Yay!! It’s a new 20 Minute Tuesday post! I have cheerleading camp to thank for allowing me the opportunity to come up with a new project to share with you. So, Go Fight Win cheerleading camp, you rock!

Bulletin Board Tutorial

Supplies:

  • 12×12 cork tile
  • shaped chipboard (purchased at Hobby Lobby)
  • sharpie/marker
  • exacto knife or scissors
  • contact cement
  • optional – ribbon for hanging
  • optional – twine or ribbon for edging

Simply trace your object onto your cork tile. Use an exacto knife or scissors to cut out the cork board. Follow the directions on the bottle of contact cement to glue your 2 shapes together. Badda Bing, Badda Boom – you’re done! A couple optional steps you can take are to attach ribbon to the back of your chipboard and to edge your cork in twine or skinny ribbon.

Now I have a place to pin up inspiration, business cards, little things I can’t seem to toss out but serve no purpose.

I used a little contact cement to help me outline my cork in twine, I thought it gave it a more finished look, but it’s not necessary.

These would make really fun gifts, especially for the tween and teen set, you could do smaller ones for your locker or dorm or sorority house room!

The great thing about going on vacations is, well, going on vacation and BEING on vacation. The flip side is missing out on what feels like almost an entire month! Before I left I was so busy completing orders, buttoning up details on a big presentation at work so I didn’t have a moment to make anything for 4th of July. And in craft blogland, if you don’t have something up a month before the holiday it feels like you are already behind.
I look a few moments today to whip up this 4th of July inspired wreath. I hope you enjoy it!

It’s going to be hard to part with this one!

This one will go in the Ready to Ship section of my shop, but I can also make this combo as a custom wreath or a DIY kit!

Happy June everyone! How the heck did it get to be June already? I feel as though I was just doing St. Patrick’s Day projects. This month might be a bit “spotty” with posts as I am heading out on vacation for half the month, but fear not, I will (hopefully) be getting all kinds of inspired for new projects from my travels!
On to today’s fun and mostly easy project – making your own custom ribbon!

Customize your Ribbon

The supplies for this project are simple (I happened to have them all on hand but that’s because I am a craft hoarder).

  • White or light colored grosgrain ribbon
  • printable heat transfer paper for light fabrics
  • a computer and printer
  • Iron
  • Paper trimmer or scissors and a steady hand

Open up your favorite designing software on your computer (even if it’s just MS Powerpoint or MS Paint). Create the image and text you want on your ribbon in real size meaning, measure your ribbon width and draw a rectangle in your design software to mimic the size of your ribbon. Then type in that rectangle, add graphics, clip art, monograms, whatever you want to “print” on your ribbon. Remember that this is normal 8.5″ x11″ paper, and you’ll need room for borders if you don’t have borderless printing options on your printer, so keep your design in according to those dimensions. My pieces of ribbon were 6″ long and my ribbon was .75″ wide so I drew a rectangle of those dimensions and designed my Southern Craft Academy graphics to size. I was able to fit 11 strips on 1 sheet of paper.

**Most Important Part** You must FLIP your design before you print it. Some printers will do this automatically for you if you select Iron-On Transfer as your type of Paper, but PLEASE check out the preview of your page BEFORE you print to make sure everything is backwards!!

Using your paper trimmer (mine is REALLY dirty from 8 years of use), cut out your strips of transfer paper to the exact size of your ribbon. The reason to make them the exact size instead of trimming off those blank edges is that the transfer paper & process will discolor your ribbon slightly, using the exact dimensions will make the entire ribbon look the same color.

If you are doing this process to a long stretch of ribbon simple but the edges together of your transfer papers.

You’ll want to do these next steps on a table or other hard surface protected by a towel (thus the weird texture background in these photos). An ironing board just doesn’t give you the resistance you need.

Line your transfer paper up on top of you ribbon, printed side down.

According to the package direction iron the paper onto the ribbon.

Once the paper/ribbon has cooled, slowly peel back the paper.

BAM! You’ve got yourself some custom ribbon!!

Or maybe you have a BUNCH of custom ribbons!

There are so many fun things you can do with your custom ribbon including using my Mini Key Fob tutorial to make your own PERSONALIZED mini key fobs!!
