The US Men’s National Team is heading to the round of 16 in the World Cup. Fourth of July is next week. Any day is a great day to show your patriotic pride and if you have 20 minutes you can make really cute Patriotic Cookies, promise! You just need a couple simple supplies, like SweetWorks Pearls and Sixlets, and you’re ready to go. Of course you can always substitute your favorite sugar cookie and buttercream recipes if you have a little more time, I just never seem to have much of it lately!

Supplies:

Ready to bake sugar cookies
Frosting
Various Pearls, Sixlets, and sprinkles

I love working with the SweetWorks pearls, they are a little smaller than Sixlets, not chocolate, and they come in every color imaginable! You can pick them up pretty much anywhere they have baking or party supplies.

Bake your sugar cookies per the directions on the package and let cool on a cooling rack. I like to place the pearls in ramekins so they are easy to access.

Once the cookies are cool to the touch you can frost them. The Easy Frost comes with a star tip already on the frosting, no need to transfer it to a pastry bag, or you can just smooth it on the old fashion way. Both make equally pretty cookies.

After you’ve frosted the cookies just start adding Pearls, sprinkles, and Sixlets! It’s really that simple. Just press the candies right into the frosting to create any design you can think of.

Don’t have time/patience/desire to design the cookies yourself? Simple solution: set out the supplies and you have an fun activity for your kids or guests! It’s a TWO-FFER! Ooooo, come to think of it this would be a great activity for a Captain American or any superhero party!
The possibilities are endless!

I have a not so shocked secret to share with you. I am a cake stand/cake plate hoarder. I am obsessed with all things cake stand. I may or may not even have a very special one on my list for Santa. I would rather have a beautiful cake stand over a pair of shoes. It’s a sickness, I am well aware!
I really love white cake stands because of their versatility but white can also sometimes be boring. To cure that bordem I have come up with a re-usable, wipe-downable, personalizable, customizable to any party cake stand/cake plate “placemat”!

The supplies you need are simple:
A cake stand/cake plate
Scrapbook Paper (I used double sided)
A ruler (I used the twine w/ the ruler to get an accurate measurement)
A compass
Not Shown:
Clear Contact paper or Laminating pouch & machine
Computer & Printer
Scissors

Measure the inset of your cake plate. I used my twine to get a really accurate measurement from lip to lip and then measured that distance with my ruler.

(If you don’t want to personalize your plate cover you can skip these next steps.)

I used PowerPoint to create my personalized plate cover. You can do this in any software you’d like, I just have a lot of hours logged into PowerPoint for work, so I know my way around it.

Open a new presentation and change the layout to portrait if you want (I find it easier, it’s not necessary though).

Click on “Shapes” and draw a circle – it doesn’t matter the size. While the circle is selected click on the Format tab, there you will see the sizing boxes. I picked 5.75 because my cake plate inset was 6.25 and I wanted a lamination border of .25″ around the entire circle. Next click on the Shape Style that has just an outline and a clear center. You can change the outline color if you’d like. You will be cutting it off.

Now your circle should look like this.

Inset a text box. I like to use the traditional Monogram KK font.  Play with the font size to best fit your circle.

To make sure that both of my secondary letters were going to be the same size, once I figured out what size I liked my first letter, I just copied and pasted it so all I had to do was change the initial.

Using the shift key, select all of your letters and then follow the instructions to align them. I would suggest that you group the 3 letters together once you’ve aligned them. You can also try to align the circle to the letters, however, I have found that doing so won’t usually work with MonogramKK. You will just have to play with centering the monogram with the circle. You can use the grid to help you.

Go ahead and print that bad boy out (I printed it out on the lighter/boring side of my double sided scrapbook paper.

Use your scissors to cut out the circle.
If you don’t want to re-use or wipe down your plate cover then you do not have to laminate it, you are good to go.
However, if you want to be able to use your cover again,  you’ll want to laminate it one of two ways. The first way would be to insert it into a laminating pouch and send it through your laminating machine a couple times. I picked up a laminating machine with 100 pouches at Costco for $20 last year. The second way is to use clear contact paper. You’ll want to cut out 2 squares of contact bigger slightly bigger than the diameter you want your finished product to be. Then carefully sandwich your circle between the two pieces of contact paper, smoothing out any bubbles. Once the paper is protected used your compass to make an indention all the way around your laminate to give yourself a good guid, then cut it out.

Side one!

Side two!!

Golden Double-stuff Oreos

or REDRUM cupcakes from Cupcrazed Cupcake Bar in Baxter Village.

YUM!!

The sky is the limit when it comes to making your own cake plate placemat. If there isn’t scrapbook paper that matches your party decor, print your own paper. If your cake stand is larger and you can’t run the paper through your printer you can draw on your monogram, use a party printable glued on as the center, or stickers & decals for the monogram. Contact paper comes in a large width so just use that method of protecting your beauty!
I hope this tutorial will help you out this holiday season and all year long!

The nice folks at DisneyFamily.com have shared with me some great fun and easy Halloween crafts and treats. In fact, they have 31 days of fun, family friendly craft ideas on their website right now. Everything from simple masks to make with their downloads, cute pumpkin carving templates, to homemade Disney costume ideas. I am really loving the oogie boogie cupcakes from Nightmare before Christmas but since my little love bugs are too young for scary Halloween I am going to be making the Mickey Mummy Cupcakes!

For Mickey Mummy Cupcakes you’ll need:
·         Batch of baked cupcakes
·         Wax paper
·         Confectioner’s sugar
·         Rolling pin
·         Marshmallows
·         Kitchen scissors
·         White frosting
·         Chocolate nonpareil candies
·         Chocolate-covered raisins

I have my cupcakes baking in the oven right now so check back tomorrow to see how my cupcakes turned out! (Please keep in mind I am NOT a professional cupcake decorator and do not pretend to be, so don’t get your hopes up too much)

Until the check out all the great family friends crafts, recipes and ideas on DisneyFamily.com

I had a bunch of extra edible cupcake toppers leftover from Baby P’s Polka Dotty Pool Party, so I thought I would bring cupcakes into daycare tomorrow for Baby P’s first birthday!! Of course, these are for the teachers, not the babies :)
It really couldn’t be any easier to make custom, expensive looking cupcakes on the cheap and on the quick! I used this recipe for the cupcakes, as always, a can of Easy Frost, sprinkles (I had ordered a special combo of colors for the party on etsy, here, but you can use any sprinkles), and the edible toppers.  Done. (oh, and you could just pick up cupcakes from the bakery if you don’t have time to bake!)
