The temperatures are inching downward and I am itching to get in some front porch sitting. Summer time is entirely too hot to sit on our southern facing front porch and so, sad to say, it’s gone neglected as of late. Today I decided to change that neglect and give the porch my full attention. It started with a pillow I made last year and ended with 3 more to coordinate! The best part of all 4 pillows, besides the fact that you can make each one in around 20 minutes with only the most basic of sewing skills, is that they are all reversible!! Dual purpose really makes each pillow like 10 minutes, right??

Supplies:

Fabric
Scissors or rotary cutter
Ruler
Sewing machine, thread, and straight line sewing ablity (not fancy)
Pins
Poly-fil/Batting
Heat Transfer Vinyl (optional)

Directions:

  1. Place your front and back fabrics together on your cutting board if you’re using a rotary cutter, on a flat surface if you’re using scissors.
  2. Cut your fabrics to size. My large pillows in the back are 20″x20″ and the ones in the front vary (18″x9″ and 20″x10″). Cutting them both at the same time will ensure they are both the same size.
  3. Place your fabric right side facing and sew, using a 1/2″ seam around 3.5 sides, leaving enough room to turn the pillow case right side out and stuff with Poly-fil.
  4. Clip the corners and turn the pillow right side out.
  5. (optional) Iron on your Heat Transfer Vinyl decal (or use an embroidery machine to decorate both sides)
  6. Stuff with as much Poly-fil as you want, making sure you really get it into the corners. It might take some working to get it flat. I like to sit on it for a little while, it seems to help.
  7. Using straight pins close up the opening you used to stuff the pillow and sew it shut using a 1/4″ seam (I am lazy so I just top stitched with my machine, please feel free to use a fancy hand stitch to close it).
  8. Pop in on your porch!!

One side helps us show our Gator pride while the other side is ready for Halloween!

As you can see the pillows help tie in the I Love Florida Football Wreath I made last week.

And just when I thought 2 pillows were enough, they weren’t. I needed 2 more. I was out of the orange and while chevron fabric so I fished out this polka dot fabric from the bottom of my stash and ironed on our monogram.

Again, both of these pillows are reversible, including color coordinating monograms.

I even was able to quickly update my front porch bird cage with an easy ribbon change.

I am so excited about the start of my front porch makeover. I hope to add a few more versatile pieces in the coming weeks so check back soon for more updates and easy projects!

If somehow you get to my front door and haven’t noticed the University of Florida license plates and decals on our cars and you missed the Gator garden flag in the front bushes AND you missed the Gator gnomes guarding our front steps then you will definitely understand where our college football (and baseball, basketball, softball, and so on) allegiance lies when you see the biggest wreath I’ve ever made. After years of making wreaths for others I finally decided it was time to make one for myself and since I didn’t have to ship it anywhere I could make it as big as I wanted. So I did.

Using an 18 inch flat styrofoam wreath form I used more than 40 yards of ribbon, beautiful orange and blue ribbon, to create this wreath. That’s over 350 hand-cut pieces of 4 inch long ribbon, sewn into 2 inch long loops, and then individually hot glued into place. There are no short cuts for this wreath that can have the same results.

And because the wreath wasn’t enough I created a multi-layered add-on pin to really hit the point across.

Sometimes you really need to be willing to give up a couple finger prints in order to get the wreath you want.

I think my door looks complete for football season now.

And there is no doubt with this wreath hanging up that In All Kinds of Weather I LOVE Florida Football!

Back to school also means back to college football, which just happens to be the best time of the year. I believe that as of today there are 24 days left until Gator football starts! Even though we had just about the worst season ever last year my love for my Alma Mater is still as strong and vibrant as ever. To help get us in the spirit I’ve design a cute mini banner than can be printed in 1 page, cut out easily, and strung together to show that we’ve got spirit! (yes, we do. we’ve got spirit how ’bout you!)

This little banner is fun and easy to make.

Just download the files. Right now I have Orange and Blue available as well as Black and Gold.

Print them out on your home computer on a nice piece of white cardstock.

Cut them apart using scissors or a paper trimmer and then use whatever ribbon or twine you have laying around to string them together.

I used a corner rounding punch on the UCF banner pieces and it totally transforms the look!

So go ahead, get wild and put your own spirit into the banner – make it your own! Just remember that these files are for personal use only.

Oh, and one more thing, what color combos/schools would you like to see a spirit banner for? Let me know in the comments!

Several months ago I fell head over orange and blue heels in love with this fabric.
Not all that shocking that I fell in LOVE with it, I know, but after buying a couple yards all it did was sit in my fabric cabinet. Until last night around 10pm when I had the sudden urge to make myself a new wreath!

I wasn’t sure it was going to work, but I really wanted the orange and blue chevron pattern to stay true to their design. I decided to wrap the wreath from front to back with my fabric. It wasn’t easy and it took about a bajillion pins but I finally got it to work! After hanging the wreath up in my office and staring at it for a while I decided it needed some add-ons. The bow with the fabric covered button was cute but I still needed more. I thought about adding a chalkboard cut out decal to the wreath but didn’t want the black on the wreath and wasn’t in the mood to make my own white chalkboard paint. So after a little supply searching through my ever-unorganized craft stash I had a Gru style Lightbulb moment!!
DRY ERASE BOARD!

I found a small wood circle, cut out a piece of peel and stick dry erase board to match, hot glued a little ribbon ruffle onto the back and VIOLA – a customizable Game Day Wreath! Now I can change the saying on the wreath every week depending on who my Alma Mater is playing! Brilliant right?!?

These would be really fun for any team that you love and I am looking forward to changing my wreath’s message every week!

This time of year is rather bittersweet around our house. It’s a new year and the possibilities are endless (yay!) but it’s also the end of football season (boo!!). Although the Gators didn’t show up for their post season game and the Vikings didn’t show up for theirs either, we are still excited about the NFL post season, especially the Super Bowl. I think pretty much everyone can agree that the Super Bowl is, well, Super! The game, the commercials, THE FOOD, the halftime entertainment, THE FOOD. Yeah, no matter who is playing in the big game, the food is really the most important thing going on the first Sunday in February. So you better start getting your Game Day Food game plan in gear!
To help get you started Rubbermaid and Target have teamed up to offer you 2 exclusive coupons you can print at home and use to buy the gear you’re gonna want come game day.
Tailgating_Rubbermaid

The coupons Rubbermaid has for you to print out exclusively on Target’s website are for both the with durable food storage containers and the convenient Take Alongs line. I’ll tell you more about why I loved both of these product lines below… after the photos!

First, I printed out the coupons (be sure that you are at a computer that is attached to a printer before you go to the website to get your coupons printed). Then, I headed to my local Target to start my shopping. As you can see Rubbermaid has containers for pretty much anything you need. If you already have a menu, errrr, Game Plan, in place you can buy individual containers. If you are like me, and like to wing it (chicken wing it, that is) the variety packs are the way to go.

Packing up all your game time goodies in the containers is easy and it makes you look like maybe you actually made all these things and didn’t just buy cupcakes while you were at Target shopping for Rubbermaid products.

Packaging everything in the containers makes a world of difference in packing up your goodies to take with you the big game. I was able to get so much into my bag and even though there were bumps and thumps along the way, nothing opened, nothing spilled.

Set up was super easy.

No worrying about bugs or little hands getting in my food before it was game time.

Take off the lids and serve!

Clean up is even easier than set up. You can just leave the Take Alongs with your hostess & buy more tomorrow or just pop the lids back on and put things in the fridge or cupboard as needed. And once you are done with the containers there is beauty in the Easy Find Lids. Not only do the lids snap to themselves (which is a blessing if you’ve ever opened your cabinet to have an avalanche of lids fall on you) but they also snap to the bottom of the actual containers.

Like I said – here are just some of the reasons I really love the Rubbermaid containers

Easy Find Lids containers:

  • Lids snap to the bottom of containers—never lose a lid or leave one behind at the party again!
  • Leak-proof seal prevents messes and spills on the way to the party.
  • Range of sizes makes taking what you want easy! Large sizes for wings, chips, salads etc., all the way down to small, half cup sizes for dips and sauces.

TakeAlongs provide a worry-free way to take food to the big game party.

  • Leak proof seal prevents messes and spills
  • Great value and great quality—perfect for giving food in as a gift, and leaving behind.
  • Range of sizes makes taking what you want easy! Large sizes for wings, chips, salads etc., all the way down to smaller sizes for dips and sauces.

If only I could get Rubbermaid to have these available in Orange & Blue, I would never need another bowl or dish for my tailgate set ups ever again!

Rubbermaid is also hosting a Game Day Party Sweepstakes!
They are offering the chance to win an Easy Find Lids Party Pack, a 48Qt Cooler and $100 VISA gift card! To enter the sweepstakes readers must click on this link: http://www.rubbermaid.com/sweepstake/pages/sweepstakeRegistration.aspx?sweepstakeId=35

If the zombie apocalypse descends upon us tomorrow I totally prepared – as long as the only things you need to survive are spools of ribbon, hot glue sticks, Cheetos, and antibacterial foaming hand soap from Bath & Body Works. I keeps a large stock of all those items on hand at all times. If you go into any of our bathrooms and open up the cupboards below the sink you will find a reserve of hand soap, probably 2-3 bottles, at any given time. They might be half used, they may be holiday specific, they may even be full and 3 years old – you never know! But when we were having people over to watch the Gators last weekend I wanted to make one of them into Gator Soap!

I decided the best, fastest, & easiest way was just to make a new label for the bottle. I opened up the Silhouette Studio software and racked my brain. After taking careful measurements of the current label I drew a trapezoid roughly the same dimensions (a little larger so it would cover, but not too large that it wouldn’t fit on the bottle font) and filled it in with a football-esque background, added some text and a little logo. Print it out on sticker paper, hand cut the baby out, and stuck it over my label!

Now, if I would have thought ahead and been really smart I would have print it out on waterproof paper, but I didn’t think that far ahead (water + regular paper = disaster). However, if you dont have waterproof paper (b/c really who does besides those of us waiting for the Craft Zombie apocalypse) you could just cut out your shape, and before you peel the backing off, lay a piece of clear packing tape over the front of your design and trim the tape to the shape of your label. THEN peel off the label and stick it your bottle and you should have a waterproof label!!

While I was in my half bath taking photos of soap (which is so normal to do) I decided to take you on a tour of my mostly DIY bathroom makeover!

This mirror frame is from Mirror Mates and I assembled and installed in while my husband was out of town on business (I might have also not told him I even ordered it in the first place). Guess how long it took him to realize something was different.

This is just a re-DIY’ed DIY that I blogged about here.

How fun are these little wooden pennants that I painted with homemade chalk paint and distressed with vaseline?

The shell piece was found at Home Goods, although you could DIY that.

This is also a re-DIY’ed DIY piece that I blogged about HERE.

And this is just a DIY piece that I haven’t redone yet that I blogged about here.
So there you go you.  A fun way to personalize soap & a little tour of my half bath!!
