Adding Color and Pattern with Curtains

September 26, 2013 By Stacy Leave a Comment

I am still working on my office and craft room makeover. Life’s been busy and some weeks I don’t make any progress at all. Other weeks lots of fun things happen. Like my new curtains that arriving from American Drapery Systems. I can’t believe how long I’ve been living with boring, dull, solid drapes in my office!

Horrible, right?

Don’t get me wrong, I picked those draped out almost 5 years ago, they were on clearance at Restoration Hardware and the color looked ok in the store, so why not? Well, I’ll tell you why not, because they sucked all the life and creativity out of my office!

What an amazing difference! I am the first to admit that I am scared of pattern and bold color. It took me a long time to finally pick a fabric and actually order it. I went with this beautiful damask coral fabric from Waverly and I am so glad I took the leap of faith and hit the order button. Only problem was that now I had 6+ yards of not-cheap fabric that I was going to have to sew, and sew straight at that. Luckily my friend Josh came to my rescue and offered to fabricate and LINE my curtains for me!

I didn’t think the black out lining was going to be much different from my already lined drapes from RH, but wow, it makes a huge difference. We have a southern facing house, and my office is right in the front of the house and the afternoon sun is brutal. Being able to close the curtains with the black out lining makes the afternoons much more pleasant in here.

Adding the cheeriness of the color and the pattern has really brought joy to my days. In case you didn’t know I work, full-time, from home. So I sit in this office at least 40 hours a week, usually more because I come back in here at night to craft and design.

Do you have bland, solid, no-fun drapes some where in your house? I challenge you to replace them!! Find a fun pattern or add some bold color, you can bring joy to your home, too! Also, don’t forget to check out American Drapery Systems on Facebook, you can leave Josh a message and see how he can help you, too!

Disclosure, Josh (American Drapery Systems) is a long time friend and fabricated these drapes for me, however if the quality would have sucked I wouldn’t have taken the time to write this post, I just would have defriended him, 😉 Just kidding Josh! But seriously, these thoughts about my awesome new drapes are 100% honest and my own.
