Disney Cruise Line Inspired Key Fob

March 5, 2015 By Stacy 2 Comments

Well it’s March, which means Spring Breaks around the country are starting, that is if you have any Spring Break left after all the snow days most people have had to deal with this Winter. Last year for Spring Break my family went on our first Disney Cruise. It was nothing short of magical; the best vacation we’ve ever been on as a family. This summer we’ll be returning to the Disney Dream and one thing I wished I would have had last year was a way to easily carry around my room key when I didn’t have pocket. My solution is a fun, easy, and no-sew Disney Cruise Line Inspired key fob that would make a really great Fish Extender gift as well.

*Disclaimer – I received the Speed-Sew product free of charge, however the thoughts and opinions shared are 100% authentic.

Supplies:

  • 7/8″ grosgrain ribbon – 2 patterns
  • (optional) 1″ webbing
  • 7/8″ key fob hardware (found on Etsy)
  • Mouse shaped split rings (also Etsy)
  • Speed Sew or other fabric adhesive
  • pliers fitted with cushioning
  • small paint brush or Q-tip & paper plate for glue

1) Cut your ribbon to size. I think 10.5-11″ for an adult size key fob. You’ll need 2 ribbons or 1 ribbon and 1 piece of webbing per key fob.

2) Squirt some Speed-Sew onto a paper plate and use an applicator brush/paint brush/Q-tip to spread some on the back side of one piece of ribbon/webbing. I like to do about 2-3 inches of glue at a time taking time to carefully match up my ribbon edges as I go to get a nice looking, straight final product.

3) Get your key fob hardware ready.

4) Use you plier to clamp down on the hardware. Be careful not press down too hard so the clamp prongs don’t puncture the front of the hardware.  IMG_5513-001

5) Twist your split ring onto the key fob.

That is all there is to it! I made all 4 of these key fobs in about 30 minutes including drying time.

So that I can easily carry my Key to the World card around the ship with me I will be buying a lanyard badge holder to add to the split ring on the key fob. Now I’ll be free to roam the ship purse and pocket free without a care in the world! Have you been on a Disney Cruise or planning on going some day? I plan to have a couple more tutorials and posts soon!

Where did you get your DCL ribbon? It’s super cute and I’d love to find something similar before our cruise this June!
