20 Minute Tuesday | Houseguest Prep

April 17, 2013 By Stacy 3 Comments

A couple weekends ago we took a family road trip to the Washington, DC area. My husband and I lived in the area before we were married and long before children but hadn’t really been back since except in and out for work so we wanted to bring our kids to experience our favorite time of year in the capital, cherry blossom season. Well, due to the cold spring we missed the cherry blossoms by about a week but we still got to explore the city and best of all, we got to spend time with family that we hadn’t had a chance to see in about 5 year.
Staying with my husband’s cousin is always a treat as they are the most gracious and thoughtful hosts you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting. On Friday night I had inquired about a hair dryer and wouldn’t you know – in a basket in the room we were staying in was not only a hair dryer but anything you might possibly have forgotten at home. Brilliant. So on my 7 hour drive home, which was just me and the kids since the hubs stayed in the DC area for work, I got to thinking on MY houseguest basket since my in-laws will be staying with us next weekend for the little mini-me’s birthday.

Free Be Our Guest Print Tag

Houseguest Prep

Of course I had to design a little tag to go on my basket, so if I was going to that much trouble of course I was going to make it available for you to download for free, too. (link at bottom of post)

The room that is now our guest room was recently our nursery so I had several of these baskets from Pottery Barn Kids lying empty in the shelves of the changing table (which is now the TV/media stand). I gathered some supplies that I had in the upstairs bathroom and linen closet and completed my basket with a quick trip to Target.

You’ve got your basics of toothbrushes, mouth wash, cotton pads, q-tips, tums, bars of soap, disposable razors, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, brush, comb, spray deodorant for both men and women, and a compact hair dryer that I picked up for under $15.

I also used one of the tags to pretty up the towels and washcloth that I left on the bed. Once I get all the towels washed there will be a his and hers set (with coordinating washcloths and tags).

I think the tag adds a little bit of letting your guest know these items are there for their use without having to say anything, plus it’s just cute and it will have you singing the song for the next hour.

I’ll probably add some bottles of water and a little treat before arrival as well.

Hopefully you’ll have an extra 20 minutes before your next house guests arrives to help ensure that their stay is easy on everyone and they truly have all the comforts of home, even if they forgot something.
If you’d like to download the Be Our Guest tags you can do so HERE. Please remember that the file is for personal use only and is not to be sold, edited, or altered in anyway.
