Mason Jar Jewelry | Mod Melts

June 26, 2013 By Stacy 6 Comments

It’s officially summer!! Time to invite your friends over and sip on some delicious beverages while you enjoy the longer days. Mason jars are the perfect laid back but still trendy glassware of choice these days so why not make it easy for you guests to tell their jars apart. Using the new Mod Melts you can create super quick and easy jar jewelry!!

Recently I was given the opportunity to try out a brand, spankin’ new product that is available exclusively at Michael’s Craft Stores. They sent me this great box filled the newest product from Mod Podge. I kinda have a thing for hot glue so this project was really fun for me. What are Mold Mets? Mod Melts and Molds give the look of resin but with non toxic sticks that you melt in your glue gun.

You will need a mini, hi-temp hot glue gun to use the Mod Podge glue sticks, but you can find those pretty much anywhere for under $5 if you don’t already have one.

Supplies:

  • Mod Melts Mold (they come in several fun varieties)
  • Mod Melts (the “glue” sticks) & a mini hi-temp glue gun
  • Paints of your choice
  • Dabber style paint brush
  • Baker’s twine cut into 1 yard pieces (1 per jar)

Step 1) After your glue gun is HOT squeeze the Mod Melts into your mold. Use the nozzle of the gun to really get in all the crevices to get the most detail in your final product. You can do 1 mold at a time or go ahead and fill all of them at once.

Step 2) To make the embellishments into Jar Jewelry place the middle of your baker’s twine lengthwise onto the still hot Mod Melts. You’ll have to work quickly because the Mod Melts set pretty fast.

Step 3) Wait about 5 minutes and then pop your embellishments out of the mold, they will pop right out!

Step 4) Trim any Mod Melt from around the edges of your embellishments, they cut easily with scissors, and paint them any color you desire! The Mod Melts take paint really well, and it’s a lot of fun to layer the paint to create different effects.

Step 5) Tie the twine around the tops of your mason jars.

You can also attach the painted embellishments to a strip of paper to coordinate your silverware rolls, too!

Love these! Did you use your regular glue gun or buy one just for this? I bought the milk glass looking Mod Melt sticks, and I have been trying to figure out if I need another glue gun before I use them. Thanks!

You can use your regular glue gun if it’s a mini, hi-temp gun like pictured, it won’t ruin your gun for the regular hot glue.

This is so clever!! I love the idea of adding a bit of jewelry bling to my beloved mason jars! I’m absolutely saving this on my mason jar pin boards!
