Camping Playdate|{Elmer's Craft Camp}

At the beginning of summer I was contact by Elmer's about hosting a Kids Craft Camp play date. Their offer was so sweet I couldn't turn it down! They send me 5 kids craft kits, 1 adult craft kit, and a Walmart gift card, and in return all I have to do it throw a fun play date and document it for you?!? SOLD! And even better yet, I also get to give AWAY a craft package to one of you (more details on that below the giveaway is now closed). The theme and projects we created were all up to me and after a week or 2 of thinking about it, I decided on a craft that led me to hosting a Camping themed play date. I will let you enjoy the photos from the party and then I will give you more details on how we used the great craft kits and Elmer's products, as well as give you more details about the giveaway!!

Cute Bee graphic purchased from JW Illustrations
Sign should have read - Only Happy Campers Welcome - j/k everyone was happy!
 The main set up

 Make your own s'mores bar
 Treat cones with Swedish Fish
S'mores Popcorn (looking at this photo now, it looks like mustard when the chocolate's not dry, but trust me that is just yummy yellow chocolate melts before it hardens)- recipes from Nest of Posies
I used the Elmer's Painter pens to personalizes each kid's cup
 What is camping without Twinkies?
 Turkey Roll ups for lunch
No one ate these, but they were the colors of the party so I had to buy them
We drank Bug Juice (aka lemonade)
Everyone got to pick which marshmallows they wanted and then I put them under the broiler to toast up
Just some of the goodies that were in the Adult craft kit
I made tags for each bag
This is the awesome box that arrived for us
You need a flashlight if you're gonna go on a Nature Hunt (especially at noon)
 The table set up
a box full of craft goodies!
Everyone had a great time decorating our "Tents" with all the great craft items
Here are a couple of the tents
After all that decorating we went on a nature hunt through the backyard to see if we could find any items on our list
Those pesky squirrels are always in my yard
And this swarm of bees was relentless
These frogs weren't afraid of the kids
You just never know when Bambi is gonna bring his friends over for a party
Success!

So, all in all, we had a blast "camping" in the middle of the day and I am so excited to get the chance to share this opportunity with ONE of you!

  1. Stacy really cute and it wasn't even anyones birthday! My kids always, always request a scavenger hunt and I reluctantly agree (okay it's fun bit oh so much planning work). Glad to see I'm not the only mom who gets to make hunts.

  7. That was about the cutest party idea I've seen in a long time. Nothing like the Girl Scout camp I went to as a kid, but perfect for a bunch of young kids. I was just telling my kids my favorite camp memory yesterday while we were admiring trees chewed by beavers. As a yound 20 something, my boyfriend and I went canoe/camping in upper Michigan and would yell "Beaver!" and slap our oars on the water. Thanks for the great idea!

  10. What a great playdate! We go camping several times every summer. I don't know that I could pick just one camping memory. We do have an annual trip every summer over Memorial Day weekend that we go on every year that is our family vacation. We look forward to that from about March onward. :)

  11. This is the BEST camp theme I've ever seen! I grew up in a super outdoorsy family so there was plenty of family camping trips as well as my own yearly overnight summer camp as a kid, but my favorite memories have to be from a group camping trip I took to Disney's Wilderness Lodge with some friends in junior high. Our tents flooded everyday with the afternoon rain! It wasn't fun then, but looking back I get quite the kick out of it. Ha!

  13. Love this theme! My favorite camping memory is from when I was little and my sister and I would go camping w/ our Dad... Two little girls out in the middle of the woods getting firewood w/ our Step-mom when the LOUDEST growl you can imagine echoed through the trees. It was a Bear! We couldn't see where it was, all we knew is that we had to make it to the top of the hill to the road for safety. Of course the time I really needed my climbing abilities to come in handy, my legs failed me. I was so scared, I practically couldn't move. It was right then we heard Dad laughing so hard at us because HE was the Grizzly Bear growling from behind a tree! We were so mad, we wouldn't even speak to him... Now every time I think of camping, that is the one memory that always comes rushing back to leave a smile on my face. :D

  18. Camping Parties are a fav! I worked at summer camps for 13 years so it's near and dear! Favorite memory was my first camping trip with my husband...last fall! We headed to the beach to camp in September in Michigan. It rained buckets and the wind was so strong that we couldn't light the fire. We snuggled and stayed in the tent most of the time. We lasted two days before renting a hotel room to dry out all of our equipment. The mere mention of camping on the beach makes us laugh!

  19. My favorite memory is camping out in my dad's Army tent in our back yard with my brother in the suburbs of Cleveland. That tent was made of canvas and held the heat like crazy but we LOVED it!!!

  23. I remember camping with my big brother's Boy Scout group. My parents were the den leaders. It rained so much during the trip, but we all had a great time. My parents made little duck trophies for all the scouts to remember the wet and rainy weekend!

  25. My favorite camping memory was staying at my grandparent's camper in a little resort about 20 minutes from our house. I remember they had this little yellow alarm clock that made a louder than normal ticking sound. I now cherish that memory of falling asleep to the sound of a ticking clock and the smell of a campfire.

  26. No matter what kind of camping or where, my favorite part is sitting around the fire roasting marshmallows and telling stories. Great, great memories -- as a kid and as an adult -- of that!

  27. How totally fun! As for those sugar wafers that no one ate, *I* would have eaten them in no time! lol! :) I loved camping as a kid, & although camping as an adult turned out to be a lot more work, I've enjoyed snorkeling in the river with my hubby at our annual church campout. :)

  35. My favorite camping memory is all the kids collecting acorns. Looking back I don't know why that was so darn fun but it just was. A big group of us scouring the grounds trying to grab as many acorns as possible to add to our pile. Now that I'm a mom I realize it was probably our parent's way of getting us kids out of their hair for a while. It worked! =)

  36. I grew up camping. Such fun family memories. My favorite times were when we had our family reunions and spent the week with all of my cousins (first, second, third and fourth) half way across the country.

  44. We are camping right now in Matagorda,TX. My 5 year old and husband had the following conversation about wade fishing tonight. "Dad, you know that sharks eat at night? I learned that on Shark Week. Do you think they would eat me or you first? Never mind, you're meattier!".

  45. Great job! Love all the details! Favorite is s'mores bar. My favorite camping memory was with my dad in YMCA Indian princess. It was a father/daughter group sort of like boy scouts. I cherish those memories with my dad. Even the ones with him fixing my hair because mom wasn't around. Ha ha. Camping always creates memories - even when u are at home.

  47. Your play date looked like so much fun!!! My family camped near the river every summer. My favorite activity was sculpting the river mud and hoping it would dry and we could take our creations home. Oddly I font remember ever bringing anything home! I'm sure my brother smashed all my mud tea party sets...they never had a chance!

  48. My favorite camping memories are from this year where me and my 3yo daughter decided to learn to camp. We practiced twice in our backyard, participated in The Great American Backyard Campout, and even went camping at a place called NW Trek in Washington State(which let us camp in the zoo and wander amongst the moose/elk/deer/bison/bears after hours). The bug has bit my tot (Dad things "roughing it is staying at a Motel 6) and we love our little adventures. Our next trips that we have planned this month are camping down on the beach in the Monterey/Santa Cruz area and the big "real deal" at Yosemite.

  52. I have been inspired! My favorite camping memories are eating smores and sitting by a campfire. Everytime we light our firepit in the back yard, all ingredients for smores must be on hand! Loved your idea of the popcorn smores. I think that will be a recipe I'll try. Did you use Kettle corn?

  57. My most memorable camping moment was at the beach. We frantically chose a spot for the tent. Dad was anxious to get in the water and start fishing. I was just anxious to get in the water. The day was full of adventure and after a long day we finally snuggled into our sleeping bags. Camping at the beach was great because you could always hear the roar of the waves. This night the waves seemed closer than usual I thought as I dozed off.

I awoke in the middle of the night with waves crashing inside the tent. The full moon had caused an extremely high tide and the tent was engulfed with water. I awoke to screaming and commotion and fell right off my sleeping bag down into the cold water. I rose to my knees just in time to catch a wave right in the face. I laughed aloud at the same time I screamed.

It was the absolute funniest thing you have ever seen. This camping trip to the beach was hilarious. Mom and Dad running around screaming as the sleeping bags and camping gear were floating away on the waves. I ran and jumped with glee. I laughed until I cried. It was the funniest thing I will ever remember in my life.

  58. Too cute!! I worked at a 4-H camp for seven years!!! Yes, we did stay in cabins, but we would also have a "Sleep under the Stars" event for the kids every week. We would fix "hobo" dinners (veggies and hot dogs in foil packets cooked on an open fire), s'mores and for breakfast we toasted bread and cooked bacon and eggs over the open fire. We always had scavenger hunt games for the evening activity and spent a great deal of time sitting around the fire singing songs and telling ghost stories. The kids always said the "sleep under the stars" was the best night of camp!

  61. My favorite camping trip is about every time I've ever gone camping at Ocean Lakes with my family at Myrtle Beach! My mom's family is large, and when we were little, we would all go. We laugh about how we'd ride our bikes in a row and create this looooooong train of bikes with bags, towels, and lounge chairs. :)

  62. OMG!!! That is seriously the cutest play date I've seen. My favorite camping memory is the s'mores!!!

  63. My favorite camping memory was going to our family farm, eating hotdogs cooked on the open fire, and eating s'mores (what is camping without s'mores). It just makes things feel simple to listen to the wind blow through the trees and our cows mooing in the morning. Good times.
