Keep on Track | Blogging Income and Expense Spreadsheet

April 25, 2013 By Stacy 71 Comments

I interrupt my regular fun and crafty posts to bring something kind of boring and mundane to you today. So, sorry in advance to those of you who aren’t bloggers, website, or shop owners, but I’ll be back to crafts soon!
You might be asking yourself why I would be helping anyone out with finances or accounting. For those of you who might not know, I am a financial analyst by day and paycheck and a crafter by night and heart. It is true, over 12 years ago now I graduated from the best university IN THE WORLD with a degree in Accounting. I spent a couple years doing the accounting thing and then hopped aboard the analyst train as soon as I could because, just between you and me, debits and credits are really, REALLY boring!

I spend 8 hours a day in Microsoft Excel creating reports and analyzing the information in those reports –  sounds really exciting, right?  So when a I noticed that some of my fellow blogging friends were in a mad dash come tax time a couple month ago I thought that I would create a simple Excel spreadsheet they could use to track their income and expenses year round.

This spreadsheet is very easy to use and easy to customize and update for your own personal needs. Just follow these simple steps and you will never have to worry about any of the built in formulas!
1) If you want the header fonts that I used to show up on your spreadsheet you will have to download KG Payphone (free for personal use) but feel free to use any fonts you want.
2) NEVER type in or delete any of the mint green rows or columns – feel free to change their color to match your own scheme if you’d like but do NOT use them or delete them.
3) To add your own Income or Expense columns across the top highlight the mint green column (G in the above example if you want a new income column) right click and select insert. That will insert a column directly to the left of the mint green column and keep the formulas working. Same thing for the Expense categories – just highlight the mint green column to the right of the expense section (column M in the above example), right click and select insert.
4) To add more line items (rows) highlight the bottom mint green line which you will see when you download your own file, it is missing from the above example but it would be row 16, right click and insert a new row. That will insert a new row directly above the green row and keep your formulas working.
That’s it! Feel free to add as many columns of income and expense as you need to make your year end (or quarterly) tax preparation easier.
You can download your own Blogger Tracking Spreadsheet here for free (it’s free but I really love comments if you do choose to download it, it’s an easy form of payment).
I am not a tax professional so I can’t really answer any of your tax questions but if you have questions on how to use this spreadsheet or tips of that nature please feel free to contact me.

I have heard of this but haven’t tried it yet. I wil have to check it out. Do they let you export the info into excel? B/c then it would be super simple to add it to this work sheet and keep everything in 1 place!!
