Mod Podge Collage Clay Decoden Frame

July 10, 2014 By Stacy Leave a Comment

Disclosure: This product review is part of a campaign that I was compensated for. However, my opinions are 100% authentic and I felt that this was a product that you would like to know more about!

Have you heard of Decoden? Until a couple weeks ago I hadn’t either so let me explain. Decoden is the art of decorating anything with trinkets, and “the more the merrier” is the name of the game in designing an over the top look in this 3D collage technique. The possibilities are endless as to what you use to make decoden art – trinkets, buttons, Mod Melts, rhinestones – anything you want! To make this kind of art project easy and fun Mod Podge has come out with a new product called Collage Clay. I put together a little tutorial that shows you how to use Mod Podge Collage Clay and guess what, this entire project took me less than 20 minutes!!

Supplies:

  • Mod Podge Collage Clay (a lightweight whipped clay great to use for Decoden, 3D Collage, Assemblage Arts, 3D Stenciling and more. Available in two trend right colors, Vanilla White and Strawberry Pink)
  • A naked wood frame
  • Beads
  • Plastic letters
  • Collage Drizzle Paint (for a little extra drama)
  • 3.5×3.5″ photo

1) Before I opened the Collage Clay I laid out my main beads and letters to get an idea of placement.

2) Open your Collage Clay and pick a pipping tip (it comes with 3 and a resealable cap)- it totally looks like yummy icing but it is NOT! Actually this product is only for the over 12 year old set so please don’t let your kids use this unassisted and remember that small parts (like the beads) can be choking hazards.

3) I picked the start tip and started making lines of the clay across my frame. I went ahead and filled the entire top portion of the frames and then added the letters and beads to that portion.

4) Press your beads, or whatever you are using,  right into the clay. And that’s it!! Just keep going down the frame adding as many or as few beads as you want!

5) And because who doesn’t like a little extra drama, I decided to swirl a little extra Drizzle paint, too!

Add a photo and you’re ready to go!
